Dr. Simmons is familiar to the HGU family. She has served as the Vice President of Academic & Student Affairs and COO for the last 2.5 years. We are pleased that Dr. Simmons will assume this leadership position for HGU.
Welcome to HGU!
It is my pleasure to welcome you to Herguan University. We take pride in providing courses and programs that are designed to prepare student for entry-level work, or enhance the careers of those of you who have work experience. Our faculty are experienced teachers who are working professionals from local industries. And our support staff are knowledgeable and helpful who want your experience here to be enjoyable.
The name "Herguan" means core and gate in Mandarin. So, the idea is that learning is part of our core and the more we learn the more gates are open in our minds, our bodies, and in the opportunities available to us. So, built into the University's name is a concept intimately related to the teaching and learning process, It is what we are about.
We realize that all of you have specific career and educational goals you want to achieve. We've listened to you and worked with you now for a number of years, so we understand those needs. Our week-end executive format was designed to adapt to your needs rather than have you adapt to ours.
We realize that while you are on campus the learning environment is intense. We try to moderate that by providing refreshments regularly to you and occasional pizza and samosa lunches, providing an opportunity to socialize as well. And if pool or table tennis is your thing, they are available in the student cafeteria/lounge along with vending machines for that snack or cool drink.
The library is buzzing these days with students reading, writing, and doing research. Check out the new location off the main entry,
I hope you get the idea that we take teaching and learning seriously, as we know you do, and we try to provide an environment that feels good and supports your learning.
